In 2017, the DC Building Industry Association developed a special award named for one of the organization's Executive Committee leaders, Christopher Collins. A partner at Holland & Knight, Collins serves as Counsel to DCBIA and the DCBIA Community Services Corporation (CSC), an educational and charitable initiative to foster a commitment to community service and volunteerism among members of the Washington, DC business community. Collins has served on the DCBIA Board of Directors for many years, helping to write the by-laws that created this entity so DCBIA could galvanize its membership to have a Community Improvement Day each year and host a "Care and Share" event to provide gifts and activities to young people during the holidays.
In 2015, DCBIA created a scholarship program for students to receive tuition assistance to attend Georgetown University’s Master’s in Real Estate program to further their careers in the real estate industry.
This year, at the DCBIA 33rd Annual Achievement Awards night, DCBIA announced that it is now naming the scholarship going forward “The Christopher H. Collins Scholarship” program, providing educational opportunities for District residents to be exposed to the commercial real estate industry through mentorship and other services from DCBIA members. DCBIA enlisted help from Marshall Moya to create an identity for the scholarship program, one that mirrors the branding of the organization, but also gives the prestigious scholarship its own identity.
