Marshall Moya Design was commissioned to design the mixed-use facility on Bladensburg Road NE, Wash., DC for Diane's House.
As the first official headquarters for the organization, the 32,000 SF building offers administrative offices, community spaces, fitness areas and the individual residential units. From the exterior, the facade employs translucent panels at street level, to evoke a sense of lightness, transparency and openness, with the intent of creating an inviting and welcoming home environment. The interspersed green pockets, help bring warmth and color to the textured concrete and aluminum design elements. The design provides the aesthetic and architectural amenities necessary for a productive and healthy community.
Diane's House provides 42 units of permanent supportive housing for formerly homeless women in the District of Columbia. Additional onsite services include counseling, employment training, and life skills education intended to help women in need.
