The Walkway is a public art exhibit that seeks to inspire conversation about how strangers interact towards each other, what experiences they have had and how these experiences made them feel. The goal is to inspire understanding and respect and is part of a greater initiative to make the streets of D.C. safe for residents and visitors.
As part of our process and research for The Walkway project, we are asking the following types of questions: What type of behavior do you consider to be harmless, flattering, annoying, disturbing or threatening? Does it depend on who is saying or doing the behavior? What they look like? What type of behavior have you been exposed to? What have you participated in?
We are exploring the complex nature of these behaviors, and discussing how interpreting them is very subjective and based on very personal perspectives.
